Paul Carruthers was a very well respected hockey man in the Georgian Triangle sports community for a number of years.
Born in Collingwood, Ontario, Paul grew up on his family’s farm at Sunnidale Corners. Enjoying hockey and baseball, Paul became a very good goaltender for the junior hockey team in Collingwood and later for the intermediate teams in Stayner and Collingwood.
After his playing career, Paul started coaching in the mid 1970’s with the Junior D Stayner Siskins, before moving on to coach the Bradford Blues Junior C team in 1978. The Blues went on to win many Georgian Bay Mid-Ontario Championships with Paul behind the bench, and were Schmalz Cup Finalists in the 1979-80 season.
Paul returned to the Siskins when they became a Junior C team until the mid-1990’s, when he became convenor for the league, a position he held for the remainder of his life.
Paul was married to his loving wife, June (2003). Together they raised two children and three grandchildren.
Sadly, Paul passed away May 17th, 2010 after a long battle with cancer in his 63rd year. Paul is remembered as a great ambassador of the OHA, and one of the finest Convenors the Association has ever had.
