The Alliston Hornets are in their 45th year in junior hockey in the OHA, dating back to 1971 as a member of the South-Central Junior D Hockey League. In 1973, the league was promoted and renamed the Central Ontario Junior C Hockey League. The Hornets are now proud members of the Provincial Junior Hockey League (PJHL) and play in the North Conference’s Carruthers Division.

To celebrate 45 years of junior hockey in Alliston, the Hornets are inviting all past players, coaches, trainers, board members and fans to their Alumni Night on Friday, January 27. Everyone attending the Hornets’ Alumni Night are encouraged to wear or bring old Hornets’ jackets, shirts, pictures and memories to share with others. The night will include two separate alumni games and special opening ceremonies before the current Hornets host the Orillia Terriers.

Over the past 44 years, the Hornets have won 14 League Titles and have celebrated two OHA Schmalz Cup Championships in 2008 & 2010. They have also been Ontario Finalists and Semi-Finalists on three different occasions. A number of former players have moved on to play in the OHL, Jr A, Jr B , College, and University Levels, with a number of alumni that have played in the NHL, including: Perry Anderson, Darryl Shannon, Darrin Shannon, John Madden, and Manny Legace.

This year the Hornets have another strong team as they look to capture the first-ever Carruthers Division Title and challenge for the 2016-17 OHA Schmalz Cup.

The Alliston Hornets are a non-profit organization and Hornets’ Director of Hockey Operations Clay Birkett is thankful for all of their great fans and sponsors that help to have a competitive team year after year. Birkett said, “With our outstanding fan base and sponsors, the Alliston Hornets hope to be around for another 45 years.”
